Resume (Upon Request)

Rachel Debolski is a Detroit-based visual artist, filmmaker, and educator. She holds a BFA in Entertainment Arts with a concentration in Digital Filmmaking from the College for Creative Studies and an MA in Media Studies from The New School. Working across film, performance, and video installation, her practice engages with both narrative and experimental strategies to explore identity, desire, and the construction of the female self. Through the moving image, Debolski challenges archetypal portrayals of women in art and media, offering more honest reflections of the complexity of female subjectivity.

Her recent work examines the intersections of femininity, embodiment, consumption and control, investigating how social conditioning and media representation shape women's desire and agency. Utilizing split screens, multi-channel video, and deliberate spatial composition, she constructs immersive visual environments that complicate the viewer's relationship to the image and the gaze while drawing audiences into the psychological and emotional interiors of her subjects.

Alongside her artistic practice, Debolski has worked on feature films and television productions for NBC, Hulu, and Miramax as part of the production office team, in addition to serving as a freelance Set Decorator and First Assistant Director on independent short and feature-length films. She has also taught experimental filmmaking, narrative filmmaking, creative visualization, and Women in Video and Performance Art, integrating feminist theory and critical media inquiry into both her pedagogy and creative work.
